Dr. Hans Blokland
Environmental Committee of the European Parliament

Message:

"I congratulate the organizers of this conference with the topical theme. Business and Environmental Care are of utmost importance. One of the key challenges in our time is how to integrate business with environmental care. They often seem to have conflicting interests.

I look forward to contributing to the conference by providing information on how environment and economics are intertwined. For example in the management of waste. We cannot achieve sustainability unless the public and private sector form partnerships and work actively together on the integration of economics and environment. Not an easy task. The question is of course: how to realize and handle this in day-to-day life?

Both parties should work as reliable partners and have a fair share in the costs and the benefits. This way both parties will reap the benefits and will contribute to an ecologically sound business practice, which is an integral part of corporate social responsibility. A major challenge which will be the topic of this session."
