We warmly congratulate the organizers of this "1st International Corporate Social Responsibility Conference in Romania".

The theme of the conference, "Investing in the future", is extremely timely. We are witnessing a growing convergence between the business agenda and the sustainable development agenda around the world. As Romania is on the threshold of EU accession, this conference provides an ideal platform to test whether the business models of Romanian companies are robust enough to cope with the coming sustainability challenges. It will help to ensure that they are better prepared to effectively integrate and compete in regional and global markets.

	Marcel Engel joined the WBCSD in April 1997 as Director of the Regional Network. He holds a Swiss Hotel Management Diploma, a MSc in Administrative Sciences from the University of Konstanz in Germany, and a MSc from the London School of Economics. From 1994 to 1996, he was with UNIDO in Mexico. Marcel is a German national and was brought up in Ecuador. He is fluent in German, English, Spanish and French.
