Graduate of Cambridge University in 1973, Richard Moat started his career at Lloyd’s of London and Sedgwick Group, than for ten years he held financial positions within USX/Marathon Oil prior to his first assignment in Orange. Richard Moat has been the CEO of Orange Denmark since 2002, but he joined Orange in 1992 holding positions in Finance, Business Development and Operations and then CEO of Orange Thailand. As CEO of Orange Denmark, he played an important role in securing financial solidity in challenging market conditions. At the end of 2003, Orange Denmark ranked third among the five operators and held 12% market share. As CEO of Orange Thailand, he was responsible for the operations and development of its GSM 1800 nationwide licence. During that period, he was also responsible for overseeing the operation of Orange’s other Asian businesses, including its stake in BPL in India and Rapidlink in China, and for business development in the region. At the end of his assignment as CEO, Orange Thailand had the network implemented, service coverage for 90% of territory and reached 1 million customers within the first year of operation.
